In British Columbia, WorkSafeBC sets the number and level of first-aid attendants by cross-referencing three Schedule 3-A factors — hazard rating, maximum workers per shift, and accessibility to medical services — with at least one attendant required once any worker is present. The rules fall under the Workers Compensation Act (RSBC 2019, c. 1) and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Part 3 (sections 3.14-3.21).

Nurses in British Columbia are regulated by the BCCNM through a mandatory continuing-competence (quality assurance) program, and while BCCNM states it does not require CPR, AED or first-aid certification for registration itself, employers frequently do. Physicians are regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC), and in acute-care and residential settings a current BLS or CPR certificate is generally an employer requirement rather than a licensing condition.
